MAGNOLIA SUMMER CAMPS 2020
Our camps are open to ALL girls in Grades 2-8, so bring a friend and enjoy a Monarch experience!
Please know that the health & well being of our campers and staff is of the utmost importance. To that end, we will implement the following procedures and practices for our camps this summer:

daily temperature checks of all campers upon arrival;

being mindful of maintaining social distance;

small camp groups and in-house staff members;
-
campers and staff members who are ill are required to stay home;
-
consistent hand washing and hand sanitizing;
-
individual snacks brought from home
If there are additional considerations for a specific camp based on the planned activities, families will receive that additional information directly from those leaders.

DRAWING
CAMP

Students will study the fundamentals of drawing, beginning with basic shapes and objects, moving into a still life and ending the week with drawing the human face. Campers will explore charcoal, pencil, colored pencil and a variety of papers ~ creativity encouraged!
SCIENCE

Have fun investigating and appreciating the intricate beauty and complexity of nature and the world around us. Learning about all the branches of science: chemistry, zoology, physics, engineering, astronomy and geology!
IRISH STEP DANCE
GRADES: 2 - 8

Campers will learn the basics of Irish dancing in addition to some of the history and mythology behind Irish culture. Dancers will need to bring a pair of black ballet shoes, a water bottle, and a spring in their step! The week will end with a short performance to show what we’ve learned. Come join us this summer for some Irish fun!

Students will learn the basic procedure from first being "assigned a subject" to illustrate, through visual research and design, to completing a very personal interpretation in their final illustration!

VOLLEYBALL CAMP

Interested in playing volleyball this upcoming fall season? Need to learn the basics or brush up on the fundamentals? During this week-long camp, girls will sharpen their skills with various drills, games, and scrimmages. Let’s spend the week bumping, setting, and spiking our way into Magnolia’s second volleyball season!
COOKING CAMP

Enjoy a week of cooking fun summer recipes with chef and baker extraordinaire, our very own Mrs. Omanga! Participants will learn to prepare a variety of delicious and simple recipes, which they can then take home and share with their families. Additionally, girls will become familiar with several basic kitchen skills and tools. Come have fun in the kitchen this summer at Magnolia!

Girls will learn basic sculpting techniques and create a unique sculpture from clay. They will learn how to use the necessary tools to effectively utilize the materials. Several days will be devoted to learning basics of landscape painting, which includes stretching and priming the canvas. Art Camp will include one major art project in both 3D and 2D form.

A nice email or text message is okay, but there is a special magic to receiving a handwritten letter in the mail. This class will create real letters that are beautiful both visually and in content. We will look for inspiration in letters from a variety of authors and historical sources. To complement the beautiful words with visual appeal, we will incorporate different hand-lettering and calligraphy techniques. By the end of the week, students will have discovered the lost art of letter-writing.

HOME ARTS

This week is all about learning how to take care of our homes and ourselves well. Girls will learn the beauty in taking good care of their homes, including tips on how to do the laundry efficiently and how to organize a closet. We will have fun as we master the art of entertaining at home, studying both simple and elegant recipes and learning how to set a lovely table. The week will also include sessions on personal care, explaining tips on wardrobe, hair, skin, and nails. Campers will emerge from this week suave and polished, ready for whatever else the summer has in store!

PIONEERING

Girls will learn about America’s pioneers and journey through history back to a simpler time. Girls will learn stories about pioneer families in America and participate in making hand dipped candles, pioneer-inspired toys and crafts such as rag dolls, corn husk dolls and flowers, stenciling, how to make hooked rugs, square dancing, and traditional folk songs. Each girl will receive a beautiful bonnet, help sew her own apron, and learn how to make old fashioned ice cream with fresh berries and pound cake at the end of the week! While not required, pioneering costumes are welcome.
