A Big Round of Applause for Annie, Jr.!

Magnolia's stage lit up with energy, laughter, and a little bit of Broadway magic last weekend during this year’s production of Annie Jr. Students from across grade levels came together to bring the beloved story to life, creating a show full of heart, talent, and teamwork. 7th grade Monarchs led the cast with strong performances throughout the show. Catherine B. played Annie with energy and optimism, while Isla M. took on the role of Daddy Warbucks with confidence. Felicity C. kept the audience laughing as the over-the-top Miss Hannigan, and Savannah V. brought warmth and poise to the role of Grace Farrell. Julianna C. was a standout as the scheming Rooster, delivering a lively performance that added humor and excitement to the production.

It's Always a Hoot in 4th Grade Science!

As part of their year-long study of birds and mammals, our 4th grade Monarchs explored how owls hunt and what they eat by carefully examining the contents of real owl pellets.

With tweezers in hand, students worked patiently to uncover tiny bones hidden inside. They discovered skulls, ribs, and other small bones from the owls’ prey, learning how scientists can identify animals based on skeletal structures. The hands-on activity helped bring their lessons about food chains, predators, and prey to life.

Fresh from the Oven with Baking Club

Our spring after school clubs have started and Mrs. Omanga is once again hosting a sold-out baking club on Monday afternoons. Working alongside two 7th grade helpers, Adeline T. and Vivienne K., 18 lower school Monarchs will bake their way through the spring semester alongside our Head of School. This past Monday, the girls got off to a strong start with a classic -- chocolate chip cookies!

Father Daughter Dance

Our annual Father Daughter Dance was a magical time for our Monarchs to twirl the evening away with their dads! Guests were treated to a fun photo booth, dancing, refreshments, and a bit of playtime outside. Most importantly, though, girls and their dads enjoyed quality time together in the company of friends. Many thanks to our Monarch Club, particularly Valerie McIntosh, Ainsley Babin, Leah Johnson, and Michelle Dytrych for organizing and hosting another beautiful event!

Service Day

It has become a beloved tradition at Magnolia for us to spend the last day of school before the Christmas break serving our community. Projects are planned for every grade level, logistical plans are crafted to take many of our students off-campus, and our families are tremendously generous in donating the necessary materials, including food for the homeless, baby clothes for mothers in crisis, and Christmas treats for our local first responders.

1st Annual Alumnae Volleyball Tournament

It was a gorgeous day for our 1st annual Alumnae Volleyball Tournament on Saturday, December 20th! Monarch alumnae from every graduating class in Magnolia's history (2021-2025) attended and played in a 3-on-3 volleyball tournament. Alumnae Fatima G., Annie A., and Eliza C. (far right) took home the 1st place win for the tournament, followed extremely closely by our mom team of Mrs. Hebert, Mrs. Omanga, and Mrs. Molinas. Eliza C., Magnolia Class of 2021, was named MVP of the day following a delicious picnic lunch in The Grove. We are already looking forward to next year's event, which we hope will bring even more alumnae and their families back home to Magnolia!

Curriculum Spotlight: Science

At Magnolia School, we believe that each student has a natural curiosity about the world around her and a desire for knowledge. With this belief in mind, we have thoughtfully crafted our science curriculum so that each grade level explores a specific area of focus. Our goal is to spark a sense of wonder while teaching students the skills necessary to scientifically investigate the questions that make them curious.

MFAH Field Trip
Last week, our Intermediate Studio Art Middle School Enrichment Elective class took a trip to the Museum of Fine Arts Houston. The girls visited the permanent collection in the Beck and Kinder Buildings as well as the Louvre Couture exhibit that is woven throughout the two buildings. The visiting exhibit positions fashion as art installing 36 different ensembles from contemporary and historic fashion houses paired with masterworks from the MFAH permanent collection. Our Monarchs were delighted to see many works from artists that they have discussed in class. After their tour, they enjoyed a picnic lunch outside in the sculpture garden.

Minutes with a Magnolia Teacher

This week, we're chatting with Mrs. Amy Ducree, our phenomenal 3rd grade homeroom teacher. Mrs. Ducree joined the Magnolia faculty in the fall of 2021, and our current 7th grade class was her first 3rd grade homeroom. Mrs. Ducree has more than twenty years of experience in lower elementary classrooms and is a graduate of the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.
